Jonathan Levien and Nipa Doshi met while studying at the Royal College of Art and have rapidly become known for their work, which combines contemporary aesthetics and high-volume production with ethnicity and craft. As Doshi Levien they have designed cutlery for Habitat, pots and pans for Tefal, and an office-furniture system for Asia Materials. Most recently the duo was commissioned to design two window displays for the Wellcome Trust located on London’s Euston Road. The design for the window installations explain the Trust’s background and current work.
Industrial Facility was set up by Sam Hecht and Kim Colin in 2002. Already well respected in the field, the practice’s clients include Muji, Habitat, Harrison Fisher, and Lexon. The landscape camera, developed in collaboration with Ippei Matsumoto, has no viewfinder and gives little indication of its function. Its reflective surface displays the picture in its true proportions. Industrial Facility’s Kitchen concept - an entire kitchen enclosed in a unit the size of a large American fridge was launched by Whirlpool at 100% Design in 2004.
London-based product, environment and transport-design consultancy Priestman Goode has commissions to date including lighting for Concord:marlin, packaging for Boots, and the Pendolino train for Virgin West Coast. For this latter project, the consultancy not only replaced the existing engines and rolling stock, but also designed the seats, crockery, tableware and signage. The Yotel, a concept hotel intended to offer five-star accommodation at an affordable price, was developed by Priestman Goode and launched to great acclaim at 100% Design 2004.
